RESTORING HOPE IN HAITI'S YOUTH

The Freedom House Transitional Program

Reality: Most 18 + young adults never finish classical school (through 12th grade). More than 50% of Haitians never complete school past the 3rd grade.

When children turn 18 in Haiti, they must leave the children's home and go out on their own. Most of these children have no place to go and no way to provide for their basic needs to survive.

Our transitional program is a Christ-centered opportunity for young adults in Haiti to grow and become independent. When our children turn 18 in our home, they enter into our transitional program. The program is designed to set goals spiritually, educationally, vocationally and relationally. Our staff walk alongside them as they learn, grow and ultimately become independent. Our mission is to provide basic life skills and empower them to reach their fullest potential through education.

Mackenson

Mackenson is from a rural mountainous area called Laborde. He is the one of four children in his family. His mother and father could not provide enough food to feed them all so they gave him to his uncle to work as a restavek (child slave).  Eventually his uncle sent him to a place where he could go to school but he had no one to live with there. Wesly heard about the situation and gave him a place to live and hope for a future. Mackenson fits in well with the other children at the Freedom House. He is very quiet, kind and always ready to help others.
